About Us
Are you a government DMV office?
No. We are a privately owned business authorized by the California DMV under Vehicle Code Section 1685 to process registration transactions on behalf of the state. Every document we issue is an official DMV document and is accepted identically to what a state DMV office would produce. We charge a modest service fee on top of the standard DMV fees in exchange for same-day walk-in service.
Do I need an appointment?
Never. We are walk-in only. Show up during business hours and we help you in order of arrival. Most transactions complete in under 15 minutes total.
What are your hours?
Our current hours are Monday - Friday 9 AM - 5 PM. See the header or footer for the most up-to-date schedule, or call us to confirm before visiting.
What payment methods do you accept?
Cash, all major credit and debit cards, and most personal checks. State DMV fees, penalties (if any), and our service fee are all handled in a single transaction on one receipt.
Where are you located?
At 345 West F Street, Oakdale, CA 95361. Downtown Oakdale, easy to find, with street and lot parking available within a block.
Registration Renewal
What do I need to bring to renew my registration?
Your DMV renewal notice, or your license plate number plus the last three digits of your VIN if you don't have the notice. A valid ID and payment for the fees. If your vehicle is due for smog inspection this cycle, you need to get that done first at any certified smog station, most stations send the certification electronically to the DMV within minutes.
How do I know if my vehicle needs a smog check?
Your renewal notice will say "Smog Certification Required" near the top. California generally requires smog every other renewal for gas vehicles 6+ model years old. Motorcycles, diesel vehicles, and vehicles over 30 years old have different rules. Call us with your plate number and we'll verify in seconds.
What if my tags are already expired?
Walk in and we'll process the renewal along with any late penalties in a single transaction. You'll leave with current tags and be road-legal immediately. The longer you wait, the more the penalties stack, so don't delay.
Can I renew someone else's registration?
Yes, as long as you have the renewal notice or plate number + VIN, and the registered owner hasn't restricted the account. You don't need to be the registered owner to process a renewal.
Why is my renewal so much more expensive than last year?
Usually one of three reasons: your Vehicle License Fee went up because the vehicle was reassessed at a higher value; your vehicle hit a weight-fee category change (for commercial vehicles); or late penalties were added because the renewal date passed before payment. Any DMV office, state or private, can pull up the detailed breakdown for you.
Title Transfers
What do I need for a title transfer?
The signed Certificate of Title (pink slip), a bill of sale, a valid smog certification (for most vehicles 4+ model years old), the buyer's ID, and proof of insurance in the new owner's name. If the seller lost the title, we file a REG 227 duplicate application at the same visit.
How much does a title transfer cost in California?
The base title transfer fee is $15 plus use tax (typically 7.25-10% of the purchase price, varying by county). Family transfers between immediate relatives qualify for a use-tax exemption via REG 256. Full breakdown on our Fees page.
How long do I have to transfer a title after buying a vehicle?
California gives you 10 days from the date of sale before late transfer penalties begin. We recommend handling the transfer within the first week, the 10-day window moves faster than people expect.
My pink slip is lost. Can I still sell the vehicle?
Yes. We file a REG 227 Application for Duplicate Title alongside the transfer paperwork, which lets the sale close immediately. The duplicate title itself mails from Sacramento in 6-8 weeks, but that doesn't delay anything functional, the buyer gets valid registration and tags from day one.
Do buyer and seller both need to be present?
Typically no. The buyer brings the signed title and paperwork to us. The seller only needs to be present if there are signature issues requiring a notary or a supplemental statement.
I'm transferring a car to my child, is there a tax break?
Yes, California exempts immediate-family transfers from use tax. Parent/child, grandparent/grandchild, spouse/domestic partner, and qualifying sibling transfers all qualify. The exemption is claimed via the REG 256 Statement of Facts filed with the title. On a $10,000 car this saves several hundred dollars.
Out-of-State Vehicles
What do I do when bringing a vehicle to California from another state?
You need a REG 31 VIN verification (we do this on-site at our office), a smog certification if the vehicle is 4+ model years old, the out-of-state title, a bill of sale if recently purchased, and your California driver license. We process everything in one visit.
Do I have to go to the CHP for VIN verification?
Usually no. Our office is authorized to perform REG 31 VIN verifications on most vehicles. CHP inspection is only required for specially-constructed vehicles, revived salvage, and cases where paperwork indicates potential tampering.
How long do I have to register after moving to California?
California gives new residents 20 days from establishing residency to register vehicles in California. After that, late penalties apply.
Lost & Stolen
My registration was stolen. What do I do?
File a police report first (Oakdale PD, Stanislaus County Sheriff, or wherever the theft occurred). Bring the report number to our office along with your ID and plate number, we'll issue replacements and flag the record so old documents aren't honored. For stolen plates specifically, we recommend new plate numbers so the thief can't continue using yours.
I lost the pink slip. Can I get a new one without selling the car?
Yes. Walk in and we'll file a REG 227 Application for Duplicate Title. The new title mails to you from Sacramento in 6-8 weeks. Meanwhile, your vehicle registration and day-to-day paperwork continue normally.
Is there a fee to replace a lost registration card?
Yes, a small state fee plus our service fee. The full transaction is usually under $20 and takes about 10 minutes at the counter.
Boats & Vessels
When does California boat registration expire?
Every two years, on December 31 of odd-numbered years. All vessels expire together, regardless of when you first registered. The next deadline schedule is the end of 2025, then 2027, and so on.
Does my kayak need to be registered?
Generally no, if it's under 8 feet and has no motor. Motorized kayaks, SUPs with a motor, and all sailboats over 8 feet do require registration.
Can I register a boat from another state?
Yes. Bring the out-of-state title, bill of sale (if recently purchased), and the boat itself for Hull Identification Number verification. We complete everything on-site at our Oakdale office.
Motorcycles
Do motorcycles need smog in California?
No. Motorcycles are exempt from California smog inspection regardless of age or mileage. You skip that step entirely.
Can you register a dirt bike for trail use?
Yes. Off-highway vehicles use a separate registration system with green stickers (year-round trail use) or red stickers (seasonal). We handle OHV registrations and renewals alongside our standard services.
Do I need a motorcycle license to register a motorcycle?
No. Registration and licensing are separate. You can register a motorcycle in your name without holding an M1 or M2 endorsement. But the person riding it on public roads must hold the appropriate license.
Tickets & DMV Holds
Why is my registration blocked?
Usually because of unpaid parking tickets, FasTrak toll violations, or emissions compliance issues that have been reported to the DMV. Call us with your plate number, we can pull up the hold list in minutes and tell you exactly what needs to be cleared.
Can you pay my parking tickets for me?
No, tickets must be paid directly to the agency that issued them. We can identify which holds exist and give you direct contact info for each agency, but we can't accept payment on their behalf.
How long after I pay a parking ticket can I renew my registration?
Usually 24-72 hours for the hold to clear in the DMV system. Some agencies update immediately. If you need urgent processing, ask the issuing agency for a receipt you can bring us, we can sometimes process the renewal on the strength of the paid receipt.
